CapRadio invited us onto Insight with Vicki Gonzalez to talk about how one small farm is making a big difference through fresh, pasture-raised eggs and our partnership with Alchemist CDC. This interview captures why local food matters, and how every dozen helps a neighbor.
Neighbors Nest
Farming for Community
Farming has always been about more than what you produce. It is about who you feed. At Dwayne & Edison’s Eggery, we are proud to provide fresh, pasture-raised eggs that are both local and more affordable than what you will find in stores. Keeping prices low is part of how we give back, because good food should be accessible. Even with slim margins, we believe strongly in supporting the Sacramento community.
🎙️ Check out my interview on CapRadio’s Insight (NPR Sacramento) I had the chance to share the story behind Dwayne & Edison’s Eggery and our community work with Neighbor’s Nest.
That is why we are launching Neighbors Nest in September 2025! This is our way of helping families right here in the Sacramento area through our partnership with Alchemist CDC’s Community Food Connections program.

Why Alchemist CDC?
Alchemist CDC strengthens Sacramento by connecting communities to land, food, and opportunity. Through their Community Food Connections program, groceries are delivered directly to highly food-insecure families, often through school-based social workers and liaisons who know exactly where help is most needed.
By supporting Neighbors Nest, you are standing with us and helping Alchemist CDC extend their impact right here in the Sacramento community.
Alchemist CDC partners with local elementary schools to identify high-need food-insecure families. A local school liaison (such as a school social worker or a member of homeless services staff) identifies families in need, conducts a thorough needs assessment, and then connects them to the program. Additional periodic assessments are done with participating families to identify changes in need and effectiveness of the program. Special priority is given to homeless families and other families who have barriers to accessing traditional emergency food distribution sites (e.g., seniors or other COVID-vulnerable family members in the household, lack of transportation, single caregivers, etc.)
Our Commitment
Each week, we commit $30 to bulk purchase shelf-stable food and snacks for families in need. That amount can cover items like boxes of granola bars, jars of peanut butter, fruit cups, canned tuna, packs of pasta and rice, oatmeal packets, trail mix, canned beans, or boxes of mac and cheese and so much more. Together these items help fill lunchboxes, stock pantries, and provide multiple meals. Many of these families are in Sacramento neighborhoods and face challenges such as not having reliable refrigeration or stable housing, which is why we focus on sealed, safe, ready-to-eat food. Every dollar contributed by others will add to this effort, allowing us to increase the quantity of these staples or add new items like shelf-stable milk, cereal, crackers, and other nourishing foods. Together, we can multiply the impact and meet more immediate needs right here in our own backyard.
Together, We Build the Nest
We are more than a farm. We are neighbors committed to feeding our community. Every carton of eggs, every dollar donated, every shirt purchased, and every word shared makes a real difference. With your help, the Neighbor’s Nest grows stronger each week, reaching more families right here in Sacramento who need support.
This is not just about food. It is about dignity, stability, and hope. It is about showing that when we come together as neighbors, we can make sure no one in our backyard is left without nourishment.
How You Can Help
When you purchase our eggs, you are already helping to make Neighbors Nest possible. Your choice to buy local eggs sustains our farm’s baseline commitment, but the greatest impact happens when the broader Sacramento community joins us. Direct contributions allow us to increase the amount of food we provide and add new, much-needed items for families. You can make a donation today using the box at the bottom of this page, and recurring donation options will be available in the coming weeks. Together, we can strengthen this program and ensure it reaches more households right here in our own backyard.

Purchase a Neighbors Nest Shirt
Show your support by wearing it proudly. Our official Neighbors Nest shirt not only spreads awareness but also directly funds the mission. All profits from each shirt, $10 per item, go straight to the Neighbors Nest fund. That money helps purchase shelf-stable food and essentials for families in Sacramento who need it most. You can order yours Here.

Matching Partner Opportunity
We invite community members to match our commitment by donating at least $120 per month, the same amount we contribute to Neighbors Nest. Matching Partners directly mirror the impact we make each month and help ensure more families in Sacramento receive the food they need.
As a thank-you, Matching Partners who live in Sacramento will receive four weeks of egg delivery at no additional cost — a $45 monthly value. This is our way of showing gratitude while keeping the cycle of community support strong.
**While we wish we could offer this deal to everyone, there are a limited number of matching partner opportunities to receive the egg delivery as our winter supply is significantly lower and are very limited on delivery slots. As of 10/28/25 only 5 delivery slots remain open**
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for helping build the Neighbor’s Nest.
Note on Donations:
All contributions to Neighbors Nest go directly toward purchasing food and essentials for Sacramento families in need. Purchases are made at the end of every month, and donated directly to Alchemist CDC within 48 hours. Like all online transactions, standard processing fees apply, but they are typically a very small percentage of each donation. The remaining amount goes straight into the Neighbors Nest fund each month, ensuring your support makes a real impact.
